Aspartame and Chewing Gum
01/26/2009 - By Admin

To sweeten gum, if you do not use sugar, you have to use a replacement. Chewing gum manufacturers around the world decided to use artificial sweeteners, in particular aspartame, as a replacement for sugar in their gum manufacturing processes. The reason is not surprising. Aspartame is extremely inexpensive, and its extremely sweet.

Unfortunately, Aspartame is also the most companied about ingredient to the U.S. Food and drug administration annually. Consumers have reported an overwhelming 91 different symptoms related to the consumption of aspartame. To this Day, Aspartame remains an ingredient in virtually every chewing gum on the market.

While Aspartame remains on the market, and is found in almost every sugar free product, including chewing gum, the debate over its safety rages on. As people become more and more health conscious, we start to take a look at what is in the products we consume on a daily basis. Not just for our own safety, but perhaps more importantly, for the safety of our children. We simply do not know what the long term consumption of Aspartame has in store for us. And, while there countless debates about whether or not its safe, what is an undisputable fact is that there are no groups saying that it is good for you, but rather is it bad or not.Well over a decade ago, as people became more conscious of their weight and began to learn of the negative health attributes associated with sugar, Sugar Free Chewing Gum emerged on the market.

We went on a search for sugar free gum and aspartame free gum during our investigation. What we found was surprising. There is a Sugar Free, Aspartame Free gum out there and its called ZAPP. While we could not locate ZAPP gum at any stores in our area, the product is sold online at www.OrderZapp.com and appears to come in multiple flavors. So, our philosophy remains the same on the safety of Aspartame, and in this case chewing gum without Aspartame. Whether its you or your family, if you didnt have to consume an ingredient that may not be safe long term, then why would you? While Aspartame remains on the market, and is found in almost every sugar free product, including chewing gum, the debate over its safety rages on.
